Police detain 16 in rowdy anti-government protest in Jerusalem

Scores rather than thousands turned out on Thursday night for the regular demonstration outside the prime minister’s Jerusalem residence calling for Binyamin Netanyahu to step down. For the second night, they were confronted by violent soccer thugs who called them traitors and dispenses of hate. When stones started flying, reinforced police squads intervened and broke up the melee. They arrested 16 for disorderly conduct and assaulting police officers – half of them football fans. The police cyber unit is investigating death threats against Netanyahu on fictitious Facebook accounts.
