Lieberman: We can’t let Iran establish a military presence in Syria

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Tuesday: ”I don’t know who attacked in Syria, but I do know one thing for sure. We shall not let Iran establish itself in Syria, whatever the cost. We have no other choice. Accepting a permanent Iranian presence in Syria means accepting an Iranian garotte around our necks. We can’t let this happen.” Lieberman, speaking during a visit to the Golan town of Katzrin,  made Israel’s first reference to the attack on the Syrian T-4 air base which targeted Iran’s military compound. The defense cabinet meets Wednesday to review the security situation on the northern and Gaza borders.

In reality it maybe that Iranian presence in Syria will have to be borne, at least as long as the Russians are on their side and they build their presence right next to them.

Katzrin is small and nice but there are a lot of Russians so one does not need Ulpan to
get along. The concrete style of the city center of Kazrin together with the Russian voices
give it a Russian touch 🙂
