Four people were killed and dozens injured Friday and Saturday when pro-Muslim Brotherhood supporters clashed with opponents and security forces in Cairo, Alexandria, Assiut and other Egyptian towns. This was a foretaste of the “Great Counter-Coup” the Brotherhood plans to launch on Oct. 6, the 40th anniversary of the Yom Kippur war on Israel. Millions of Egyptians across the country received orders through the MB's underground channels to take to the streets for Stage One. During the week, gunmen attacked two military targets killing five Egyptian soldiers.

Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of Interior, blamed the Muslim Brotherhood for the deadly Cairo clashes on Saturday and denied officers had fired live rounds to break up its protest. They had however, suffered wounds from buckshot fired by protesters, said the minister. According to Ibrahim, the officers used tear gas to disperse protesters on a bridge for fear it would collapse. He accused the pro-Morsi camp of exaggerating the number of casualties, which stood officially at 65 killed and 700 wounded and certainly ran into scores.

The most violent event of Palestinian-backed Earth Day Friday, March 30, was a battle around the Gaza-Israeli Erez crossing between Israeli forces and snipers of the Iran-backed Palestinian Jihad Islami, debkafile reports. The Jihad shooters were laying down fire to cover a mass Palestinian rush on the Israeli border so as to force Israeli soldiers to shoot into the crowd. Intervention by Hamas internal security personnel helped IDF defuse the incident with one casualty. A planned or a spontaneous collaboration?
