There were two unclaimed explosions in Damascus overnight Thursday and early Friday (Jan.12-13) – one at an officers club in Damascus and the second at Mezzeh airport, which Syria alleged was the work of the new Israeli S-35 stealth aircraft firing across the border from a point over the Sea of Galilee. There was no claim to either of the attacks.

Moscow opened a new route for flying military shipments from Sevastopol in Crimea and other South Russian bases to Syria, debkafile discloses. To circumvent US efforts to block the airspace of NATO nations, Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria, along the Mediterranean route, the Russian is senidng military transports over the Caspian Sea, northern Iran and Iraq, to reach Mezze airbase in Damascus and supply the new Russian base at Jablah.The White House warned Tuesday night, Sept. 8: “Russian military buildup would risk confrontation with the counter-ISIL coalition that included the US.”

Egyptian President Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi has begun supplying Bashar Assad’s army with weapons, including missiles, after concluding a secret deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his consent to pick up the tab, debkafile reveals. The first batch of short-range Egyptian-made surface missiles has reached the Syrian forces battling rebels over the strategic town of Zabadani. (See picture.)
