Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani questioned the wisdom of Ahmadinejad's 20 pc uranium enrichment boast. Other critics doubt whether it is true. The president will forge ahead to prove they are wrong, buoyed up by the European Union's soft posture.

Iran is closer than ever before to the launch of a spy satellite by a BM25 ballistic missile, 18 of which were purchased from North Korea, notwithstanding Pyongyang's denials of aid to Iran's nuclear program. Allaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, said last week that Iran had finished building a reconnaissance satellite and had converted a ballistic missile into a space launcher. If this claim is correct, then Iran has a launcher able to put 300kg into earth orbit - and by the same definition, an ICBM that could drop more than 300 kg anywhere in the world, including Washington DC.
A three stage-missile in Iranian hands, powered by solid fuel with a long-range capability presents a major military challenge to Israel and the IDF. The Arrow system could knock out of the sky one or more of the new Shehab 3ER missiles; it cannot handle the complexities of a multiple Shehab warhead fired to deflect Arrow interceptors from meeting a heavyweight incoming BM25 ICBM.

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, echoed by the ayatollahs, persists in making outrageous hate statements, directed mainly at Israel.
His latest called the Holocaust a myth and proposed the Jews be resettled in Europe or Alaska - two months after he was condemned worldwide for saying Israel should be wiped off the map. These statements aggravate tensions in the West - especially around Iran's nuclear intentions.
At home too, Iran's rulers are bent on generating a sense of high crisis and menace. Their methods were described exclusively in DEBKA-Net-Weekly 233 on Dec. 9.
A sort of collective delusional hysteria is sweeping the Iranian populace, induced by the Islamic republic's extremist clerical rulers for reasons of their own. Wonder and hate are invoked by fake miracles and myths, demons and monsters.

Saturday night, August 7, Iranian defense minister Admiral Ali Shamkhani came out with a disturbing announcement. He said Iran will soon test an improved version of its new ballistic Shehab-3 missile whose 1300-km range covers every part of Israel. "These improvements do not only concern its range, but other specifications as well," said the Iranian minister, adding "The Israelis are trying hard to improve the capacity of their missiles, and we are also trying to improve the Shehab-3 in a short time." He offered no details on either upgrade, saying only: "We will improve the missile and when we test it, in the very short future, we will let you know." If attacked, Iran would not leave its people without defense, he stressed. Shamkhani also denied any Iranian cooperation with North Korea in missile technology - as suggested in Washington - stressing that the Islamic Republic does not need it. In between emphasizing defense, Shamkhani issued a dire warning to Israel not to dare attack its nuclear sites.

Brushing aside all the international obstacles placed in its path, Tehran is clearly advancing full steam ahead in the race for a nuclear device. Sunday, March 28, the International Atomic Energy Agency learned that Iran's freeze on its uranium enrichment was at an end when the head of Iran's nuclear commission, Golmazeh Aghazadeh, announced production had started at the Isfahan facility and the process would be completed at the Natanz centrifuge plant. On the state of the Isfahan plant, the Iranian official reported vaguely that the contractors had announced it was up and the facility functioning. He added: "In three weeks' time the Iranian people will hold a grand celebration to mark full operation at the Natanz plant."
