Israel to Ashton: Iranian forces mustn’t be allowed to dump ISIS on Israeli Golan border
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 20, 2015

Israeli leaders’ main business with visiting US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter when they meet Monday, July 20, is their concern about Tehran’s possible endgame in fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon will ask Carter if the US has any control over the Iranian command centers, and is in a position to stop Tehran harnessing Hizballah and Syrian troops to help its Shiite militias push ISIS onto the Golan and the Jordanian borders, so as to remove the threat to Tehran’s allies in Damascus and Baghdad.

Obama turns a smiling face to Israel. Biden: Iran has enough material for 8 nuclear bombs
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report May 2, 2015

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have gone out of their way in the last fortnight to shower friendly gestures on Israel and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, devoting more time to repairing the relationship than on world crises in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Ukraine. debkafile: Instead of sparring with the Israeli leader, whose speech in Congress placed him at the forefront of international opposition to the nuclear deal, the White House decided to try and convert him – and also Congress - by meeting him on certain points.

DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis April 6, 2015

“If anyone messes with Israel, America will be there.” This conciliatory message was issued by US President Barack Obama in a New York Times interview Monday, April 6. In it, he urged Israel to accept the nuclear deal as the “best bet” and rely on America to “have its back” against Iranian or any other hostility. debkafile: This message, though important, does not cover Iranian’s ongoing aggressive drive for regional expansion by conventional military means backed by terror, or loosen the noose Iran is already tightening around Israel’s borders.

Mahmoud Abbas loses his first UN round
Abbas faces more fiascos after the UN rejects his unilateral path to a Palestinian state
DEBKAfile Special Report December 31, 2014

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ motion to dictate a timeline for Israel’s withdrawal to pre-1967 lines and a Palestinian state was defeated at the UN Security Council. Had it mustered the mandatory 9 votes, it would still have been vetoed by the US. Its re-submission next year in the hope of a more pro-Palestinian Security Council lineup will be just as problematic. So will Abbas’ threat to bring Israel before the international court for alleged war crimes. For Prime Minister Netanyahu, the vote was a campaign coup against his rivals' charge that he leads Israel into diplomatic isolation.

Susan Rice with Binyamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem
Netanyahu tells Rice: Iran must not be allowed to enrich uranium. They remained poles apart.
DEBKAfile Special Report May 8, 2014

The deep divide between the Obama administration and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on the Iranian nuclear issue resurfaced during this week’s (May 7-8) Jerusalem talks with the US National Security Advisor Susan Rice. Netanyahu rejected Rice’s advice to acept Iran as a nuclear threshold state, able to enrich uranium and build new reactors - all within strict limits and close surveillance of its facilities to prevent militarization. The Israeli Prime Minister reiterated that the only way to ensure a non-nuclear Iran is to disallow its enrichment of any uranium at all.

Ya’alon apologizes for personally offending Kerry, but does not recant
DEBKAfile Special Report January 15, 2014

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon was forced to apologize Tuesday night, Jan. 14, for private remarks about Secretary of State John Kerry, showing how far Israel has fallen as a strategic asset for the Obama administration, compared with the new favorite. Only this week, Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said the US President was not telling the truth in stating that Iran would dismantle a key part of its nuclear program. The White House response: Never mind what the Iranians say; it’s what they do that matters – a freedom evidently denied Israel.

Not just the NSA: US spies rent a Jerusalem hotel suite to watch a secret Israeli site
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report December 23, 2013

Israel recently complained to Washington about the renting of hotel suites in Jerusalem for undercover agents to spy on a secret military installation used by high Israeli officials for private consultations. But other less friendly Western spy agencies caught on and took suites at the same location. To combat the exposure of its secrets, Israel introduced “sterile spaces” impenetrable to illicit penetration as well as tricks of misdirection. However, the Americans and other interested parties keep on looking for holes in these barriers - and so the contest goes on.

DEBKAfile Special Report December 17, 2013
