Binyamin Netanyahu and Moshe Ya’alon seemed to believe that an order to Jewish cabinet ministers and Knesset members Thursday, Oct. 8, to stop visiting Temple Mount would be the winning step for de-escalating the current Palestinian rock-throwing, firebomb and stabbing rampage. They were wrong. No sooner was the order released than it became a boomerang. Israeli Arab lawmakers announced that they would visit Temple Mount and Al Aqsa regardless. And two stabbing attacks followed in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Jewish New Year’s Eve saw a sharp upsurge of Palestinian violence in Jerusalem, culminating in the death Sunday night, Sept. 13, of an Israeli motorist whose car attacked with flying rocks crashed into a pole. That morning, a large Israeli police and security force seized eight large pipe bombs in an Old City apartment ready to be smuggled to Temple Mt. for use for the first time against police guards or Jewish New Year worshippers at the Western Wall below. Police the clashed with Palestinian assailants on Temple Mt. and Al Aqsa Mosque.

Israel is onto this turn of events but is keeping quiet for now. But Hamas celebrated with an unheard-of military parade on Temple Mount, Jerusalem.
