Palestinian Jihad Islami fires six rockets into Israel from Gaza

After months of relative calm, the pro-Iran Palestinian Jihad Islami fired 6 Grad missiles at Beersheba and Ashkelon from the Gaza Strip before dawn Monday. There were no casualties. debkafile: The attack came after Hamas special forces liquidated Jihad’s missile commander Sunday, June 23, amid  a violent feud over Jihad’s opposition to the ceasefire accepted by Hamas after Israel’s Defensive Cloud operation last November. Two of the four Grads aimed at Ashkelon were intercepted by Iron Dome. The Israeli air force hit back.

The Jihad shooters were laying down fire to cover a mass Palestinian rush on the Israeli border so as to force Israeli soldiers to shoot into the crowd.  Intervention by Hamas internal security personnel helped IDF defuse the incident with one casualty. The terrorists were shown firing 20 rounds in rapid succession from a Grad multiple rocket launcher mounted on a small truck which then drove off at speed – the same weapon used by Libyan rebels in Sirte.

Turkey sharply ratchets up its threat of war with Israel. Three Turkish frigates were ordered to the eastern Mediterranean and instructed to disable Israeli military ships if encountered outside Israel's 12-mile territorial waters. This was reported by Turkish naval sources Sept. 12 as Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan was due in Cairo for a controversial visit - in defiance of the Egyptian government's effort to cool the crisis in relations with Israel.
