The North Ireland Executive has been suspended for the fourth time since devolution in the aftershock set off by the disclosure of a spy ring which operated out of the Stormont offices of the Irish Republican Army's political wing for two and a half years. Our intelligence sources report that the October 5 police raid that smashed the ring lodged in the home of Ulster democracy touched off a multi-pronged undercover manhunt in Britain, Northern Ireland, Eire, Cyprus and Lebanon, as well as Northern Iraq. Its targets are Irish, Palestinian, Cypriot, Greek, Lebanese and Iraqi agents or go-betweens, who may have bought or mediated the transfer of security secrets stolen by members of the IRA spy ring.

According to DEBKA-Net-Weekly's military sources in New Delhi, a group of Israel electronic warfare experts is helping the Indian army set up and operate six early warning stations along the 750-km Line of Control dividing disputed Kashmir, for picking up movements of military forces, armed men and explosives on the Pakistani side, and jamming the electronic surveillance instruments Pakistan trains on Indian territory. These stations are backed up by smaller electronic tracking and command centers, some mobile, and 10 bases operating Israel-made unmanned aerial vehicles armed with anti-tank weapons systems capable of demolishing fortifications, as well as reconnaissance.

Mohamed joined the Egyptian Army in 1972 and three years later graduated from the Egyptian officers' academy with distinction. His exceptional physical strength and gift for languages brought him to the notice of the Egyptian security service, which sent him on a counter-espionage course. There, he was trained as a double agent and given instruction in English, French and Hebrew. His first assignment was to have been as a spy in Israel. During 1976 up until early 1977, he perfected his Hebrew and took lessons in Jewish religion. His commanders planned to disguise him as a religious Jew, move him to the United States where he would apply for US citizenship, and then have him migrate to Israel. Once there, he would join an extremist right wing group on the model of the late Meir Cahane's Jewish Defense League.
