Kouachi brothers die in suicidal attack on French siege force. Four hostages killed in Jewish Paris mini-market
DEBKAfile Special Report January 9, 2015
Four hostages held by Islamist gunmen at a Jewish grocery store in Paris were reported dead Friday, Jan. 9 by French police, shortly after a rescue operation that killed the gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, who earlier shot dead a policewoman. Other captives were set free. Minutes before, Said and Cherif Kouachi died in a shooting attack on the police siege force at a factory near Dammartin-en-Goelle, 40 km northeast of Paris. The two Charlie Hebdo killers were holed up there threatening to “die as martyrs” with their hostage before going on the offensive.
Iranian specialists failed to capture a sophisticated anti-Hizballah spying device which self-destructed
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 7, 2014
Hizballah's sophisticated hi-tech optical fiber communications network links its command centers, units, rocket launchers, senior officials’ homes and intelligence branches. Those communications are also ciphered and hard to intercept and decode. Planting an eavesdropping device sophisticated enough to interface with this network is risky and calls for high technological resources and expertise. Iranian experts, determined to hunt down and dissect one such spying device were thwarted Friday, Sept. 5, when their prize self-destructed and killed a Hizballah operative.
US-Iranian military, intelligence cooperation in war on ISIS reaps first successes in Syria and Iraq
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 5, 2014
At least 18 foreign ISIS fighters, including Americans and Europeans, were killed in a Syrian air raid Thursday, Sept. 4, over their Raqqa HQ. A second Syrian air raid killed or injured another group of high ISIS officers at Abu Kamal near the Iraqi border. A day earlier, US jets struck an IS base in the northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar, killing its commander, Abu Hajar Al-Sufi, and two top lieutenants of ISIS chief Abu Baker Al-Baghdadi. All these actions owed their success to deepening US-Iranian military and intelligence cooperation. Is this Obama's unadmitted strategy?

A Mossad overhaul has left Israel’s intelligence focused on tactical intelligence, leaving current leaders without the strategic point of view they need to conquer Hamas in Gaza.
IDF set for electronic and signals control of Hamas, Islamic Jihad command centers, after rocket fire
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 26, 2014
Before it ended with Hamas rocket fire Saturday night, July 26, the 12-hour Israel-Hamas ceasefire offered Israeli intelligence a rare opportunity for collecting enemy data. In the heat of battle, the IDF and its clandestine arms were unable to gain electronic and SIGINT access to the underground Hamas and Islamic Jihad command and control centers, which appear to be well equipped with complex tactical and encrypted communications systems. Now they must go for Hamas’ sophisticated intelligence production processing system, elements of which may have broken surface during the ceasefire.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 19, 2014
The outcome of Israel’s Gaza operation may be determined just as much by its unseen battle as by hammering Hamas infrastructure and destroying more than a dozen Hamas terrorist tunnels and infrastructure by Saturday morning, July 19, the 12th day of its fight against Hamas. This battle can’t be fought just with sophisticated high-tech gadgetry. Only “boots on the ground” can provide eyes and ears among the local populace, and the cover for agents trained to operate in an Arab environment to gather the information needed for charting the IDF's moves.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 17, 2014
If Israel is to destroy Hamas’ Gaza-based control centers, weapons, and top commanders, it will need superior intelligence and control of the electronic front.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 17, 2014
Netanyahu is relying on only two advisors to wage the war on Hamas in Gaza, and his over-reliance on air strikes and hopes for a quick ceasefire have proved this to be unwise.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 14, 2014
As Israel’s Operation Defensive Edge ended its first week on July 14, military and intelligence experts were finding it hard to believe that Hamas had fired 1,000 rockets against Israel at random. They now conclude that Hamas was collecting operational data for itself, Iran and Hizballah to use in future conflicts – both about the weak points of Iron Dome and for guidance systems to lend their future rockets and mortars greater accuracy. Those experts advise Israel to send a small undercover special force into Gaza for intelligence missions to tip the scales in its favor.

Maj. Gen. (res.) Professor Yitzhak Ben-Yisrael, a retired senior developer of combat measures for the Israeli defense establishment, was the first military official to name the exact targets chosen for the Stuxnet attack, which ravaged Iran’s nuclear program in the years 2009-2010. He also broke through the US and Israeli wall of silence, to reveal the routes available for reaching those targets, and how the virus was planted, with great success.

Thousands of al Qaeda terrorists are on the loose in US and Europe – under the radar of Western intelligence
DEBKAfile DEBKA Weekly June 3, 2014
When French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said, ”We’ve never faced a challenge on this scale,” he was referring to around 11,000 Islamist terrorists on a constant commute between the Middle East, North America and Europe primed for lethal action. Never has the West seen the likes of a terrorist army on this scale – even when Osama bin Laden was recruiting - as the latest DEBKA Weekly out Friday showed with facts and figures. And never has Western intelligence had less control of a peripatetic mass of homegrown malefactors.

In his three years as AMAN chief, Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, just appointed OC Northern Command, was credited with enhancing the corps’ operational capabilities.
