Reconnaissance drone operated by US special forces in Lebanon
US and Hizballah coordinate spy drone flights over Qalamoun, share US combat intelligence
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report May 23, 2015

The US has joined the battle for Qalamoun. debkafile discloses that a US special operations unit, stationed at the north Lebanese Hamat air base, is directing unarmed Aerosonde MK 4.7 intelligence-gathering flights over the Qalamoun Mt arena, 100 km to the west. Since Hizballah is also operating Ababil-3 surveillance drones over the same battlefield, US-Hizballah coordination became necessary. For the first time, the US military is working directly with an internationally-designated terrorist organization – with earthshaking ramifications for Israel’s security and strategic ties with the US.

Insignia of new pro-Iran Druze militia
Iran’s power moves on another non-Sunni Middle East minority: The Druzes
DEBKAfile DEBKA Weekly April 28, 2015

Behind the failed bombing attack on an Israeli military post in the northern Golan Sunday, April 26, hangs a big story: The bomb squad belonged to a new Druze militia, which Hizballah recruited, the Iranian Al Qods Brigades armed and whose mission was assigned by a Syrian intelligence master.

The coming DEBKA Weekly out next Friday shows this event to be a microcosm of Tehran’s tactics for muscling in on Syria’s million-strong Druze minority as the lever for broader regional dominion.

According to Arab media, Israeli executed its third strike against Syrian and Hizballah targets on the Qalamoun Mts. Sunday night, April 26 - shortly after Hizballah tried to plant an explosive device near an Israeli Golan military post. Anonymous Israeli sources improbably attributed the air strike to the Syrian opposition.  debkafile: Israel was more likely warning Tehran, Damascus and Hizballah that it would meet terror and the arming of Hizballah with sophisticated weapons by smashing their long-range missile depots on the mountain – even at the risk of a showdown with Iran.

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report April 20, 2015

Local reports of mysterious underground explosions in northern Israeli locations on the Lebanese border are confirmed by Israeli troops on field exercises in the neighborhood. They attest to heavy earthmoving equipment, explosions, burrowing and shaking ground on the Lebanese side of the border, giving the area the appearance of a huge subterranean building site. debkafile: Hizballah has undoubtedly taken a leaf out of the Hamas book of terror and mobilized fully and efficiently for a major tunnel-building project. Israel seems curiously passive in the face of its enemy’s dangerous enterprise.

The Hizballah convoy struck by Israel on Golan
Israel’s climb-down over Golan air strike: We didn’t know Hizballah’s convoy carried high Iranian officers
DEBKAfile Special Report January 20, 2015

Israel Tuesday, Jan. 20, used the media to relay a “clarification” to Tehran, asserting that its air strike over the Golan Sunday did not target Gen. Mohammad “Ali Allah Dadi and his staff of five, who were not known to be traveling in the Hizballah convoy.  “We thought we were hitting an enemy field unit on its way to attack us,” said a senior Israeli security official. debkafile: Sharp US intervention was almost certainly behind Israel’s embarrassing “clarification” so as to avert an all-out confrontation that would have put paid to nuclear talks.

Those sources assert that the strikes demolished components of Russian SA-25 or other types of top-line anti-air missile systems that Moscow had shipped in for Syria and the Lebanese Hizballah. The raid came less than 24 hours after Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov shook hands with Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

Defense Minister with Gens. Eizenkott & Golan
Israel’s new IDF chiefs must take next prospective war with Hizballah onto enemy ground
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis December 1, 2014

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu preferred Maj. Gen. Yair Golan for the top IDF post to Maj. Gen. Gady Eizenkott, whose appointment was announced Nov. 29. He was dissatisfied with the performance of retiring Chief of Staff Benny Gantz and his deputy Eizenkott in the Gaza campaign, as wanting in assertiveness and the operational and tactical capabilities required for countering Hizballah’s plans to take the coming war forecast for the spring onto Israel’s home ground. Netanyahu hopes Gen. Golan as Deputy C-of-S will make up for those deficiencies.

Iranian specialists failed to capture a sophisticated anti-Hizballah spying device which self-destructed
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 7, 2014

Hizballah's sophisticated hi-tech optical fiber communications network links its command centers, units, rocket launchers, senior officials’ homes and intelligence branches. Those communications are also ciphered and hard to intercept and decode. Iranian experts, determined to hunt down and dissect one such spying device were thwarted Friday, Sept. 5, when their prize self-destructed and killed a Hizballah operative.

debkafile reports exclusively that the UAV an Israeli Patriot battery shot down Sunday Aug. 31 over Quneitra on the Golan was launched by Hizballah – not Syria as reported. The Iran-made Ababail 2 was on a photography and intelligence-gathering mission over the Golan battleground, where the Syrian army and rebels are fighting over the Quneitra crossing. Hermon and southern Lebanon.
