Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu commented Sunday: “They have no intention of compromising with us. They want to destroy our country," he told his weekly cabinet meeting. He was responding to the Palestinian Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal’ vows, during his three day visit to the Gaza Strip, to capture centimeter by centimeter all of Israel which he said his movement would never recognize.
Netanyahu also answered foreign critics of his decision to expand Jewish habitation in Jerusalem and the West after the UN recognized Palestine as a nonmember state.
Israel would never withdraw unilaterally from the West Bank as it had done from Gaza in 2005, said the prime minister, “because this would risk creating another territory like Gaza from which Palestinians could launch rockets at Israeli cities.”
“We want true peace,” he said, “but we will not bury our heads in the sand.”
